Section IV — About the 2026 Air Force PFRA
Beginning 1 March 2026, the Department of the Air Force transitioned to a redesigned Physical Fitness Readiness Assessment (PFRA) under DAFMAN 36-2905. The assessment moves to a twice-yearly cadence and replaces the legacy 1.5-mile run with a longer, more endurance-focused 2-mile run (or the 20-meter HAMR shuttle).
From 1 March – 30 June 2026 all tests are diagnostic so Airmen can adapt to the new standards. Official testing for record resumes on 1 July 2026. Airmen may elect to convert any diagnostic score from this window into an official record.
Section V — Test Components & Maximum Points
| Component | Exercise Options | Max Points | Measurement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cardiorespiratory | 2-Mile Run or 20-meter HAMR | 50 pts | Time / shuttles |
| Strength | 1-min Push-ups or 2-min Hand-Release Push-ups | 15 pts | Repetitions |

| Body Composition | Waist-to-Height Ratio (WHtR) | 20 pts | Waist ÷ Height |
Each Airman must reach at least 60% of every component's maximum to pass — even with a strong overall composite score.
