Overview of the HAMR Shuttle Run

The 20-meter HAMR shuttle run is the alternative to the 2-mile run for the Cardiorespiratory component of the PFRA, carrying a maximum value of 50 points. Airmen run continuously between two markers 20 meters apart, synchronizing with paced beeps that accelerate at each one-minute level. Service members must achieve a minimum number of laps to pass, which awards 30 points (representing the 60% component floor). Landing below the floor triggers an assessment failure.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many laps do I need to pass the HAMR shuttle run?+
Passing limits depend on age and gender. For males under 25, you must complete at least 40 laps (30 points). For females under 25, you must complete at least 25 laps (30 points) to meet the 60% cardio component floor.
How long is the HAMR shuttle run course?+
The High Aerobic Multi-Shuttle Run (HAMR) is performed back and forth on a flat 20-meter course. The pace starts slow and increases with each one-minute level.
Can I choose the HAMR instead of the 2-mile run?+
Yes. DAFMAN 36-2905 allows any Airman to elect the HAMR shuttle run option as their cardiorespiratory component instead of the 2-mile run.
How is the HAMR shuttle run scored?+
Like other physical events, points are interpolated linearly between the minimum passing floor (30 points) and the maximum threshold (50 points). Laps completed above the maximum earn a perfect score.
