How Air Force PT Standards Are Organized

The Physical Fitness Readiness Assessment (PFRA) uses a standardized system to evaluate physical fitness levels. To understand how your specific performance converts to points, note the following dimensions:

  • Age and Gender Groups: Service members are evaluated within nine age groups: Under 25, 25–29, 30–34, 35–39, 40–44, 45–49, 50–54, 55–59, and Over 60. Scoring charts are separate for men and women to account for physiological differences.
  • Component Categories: Your test consists of four components. Cardio represents 50% of the total score, Body Composition is 20%, and Strength and Core are 15% each.
  • Alternate Events: Airmen can customize their assessment. You can choose between the 2-mile run or the 20-meter HAMR shuttle run, standard push-ups or hand-release push-ups, and sit-ups, crunches, or the forearm plank.
  • Point Calculation: For physical events, points are interpolated linearly between the 60% minimum passing floor and the 100% maximum score threshold. Achieving less than the minimum floor on any component results in an automatic assessment failure, regardless of the overall composite score.

Frequently Asked Questions About USAF PT Standards

What are the Air Force PT standards in 2026?+
The 2026 Air Force Physical Fitness Readiness Assessment (PFRA) evaluates service members across four components: Cardiorespiratory (50 points), Body Composition (20 points), Strength (15 points), and Core Endurance (15 points). Benchmarks adjust based on age group and gender.
What score do you need to pass?+
To pass, you must achieve a total composite score of at least 75.0 points AND meet the 60% minimum performance floor on each active component (e.g., at least 30 points on cardio, 12 on body composition, and 9 points each on strength and core).
Do standards change by age?+
Yes. Standards are divided into nine distinct age groups starting from Under 25, then in 5-year brackets (25–29, 30–34, etc.) up to Over 60. Minimum passing and maximum point thresholds decrease gradually for older age brackets.
Do standards change by gender?+
Yes, the Air Force maintains separate scoring charts for male and female service members to reflect biological and physiological differences, ensuring fair assessment standards across the force.
Are exemptions included in PT standards?+
Yes. If you have an approved medical profile (AF Form 469), you can be exempt from specific components. Your composite score is mathematically pro-rated based on the remaining active components, scaling them to a 100-point equivalent.
Where can I calculate my exact score?+
You can calculate your exact composite score and verify component pass/fail status using our interactive calculator on the homepage.
